CURATOR'S TREASURES

Exclusive access to priceless artifacts

A truly 'behind the scenes' look at unique artifacts that are stored and catalogued on board the USS YORKTOWN, but not usually accessible to visitors. Each one-hour session will be led by one of our curatorial staff and will feature remarkable artifacts, mementos, documents, and/or other treasures - each with its own unique story. This is a "white glove" session, in which participants wear gloves to ensure gentle handling of the more fragile artifacts.

AIRCRAFT INSIDE AND OUT

One of the best collections of carrier-based combat aircraft in the U.S.

Take a guided tour of one of the best collections of US Navy/Marine carrier-based combat aircraft in the United States. You will get close to valuable aircraft in the hangar bay and on the flight deck of the USS YORKTOWN, visit the pilot's ready room for a short briefing, and be able to look inside, or climb inside, some of the aircraft.

LIFE ON BOARD SHIP

Walk in the footsteps of the USS YORKTOWN's crew

This guided tour takes visitors through living- and working spaces of the USS YORKTOWN. You will be able to imagine what daily life was really like decades ago for the ship's officers and crew by viewing the places where they spent most of their time: living quarters, casual work areas, and more. This tour is truly an engaging one, and will leave you more knowledgeable about the lives of the men who served on board the Yorktown.

MARINE EDUCATION TOUR

Marine Science of the Lowcountry

Our very own Institute of History & Science is renowned for its Education programs. But you don't need to be a student to get a behind-the-scenes look at what makes the area around the USS YORKTOWN a dynamic marine ecosystem. Our special tour offers three rotating topics focused on our Collection Trays Today; the Microscopic World of Plankton; and Crabs, Crabs, and More Crabs. Tours are led by our staff educators, and participants will learn about marine animals and plants that thrive in our local coast waters.
