Aviation Summer Camp Takes Flight Aboard the USS YORKTOWNAlaina Cordes May 15, 2014
Your students are out of school, and you are both looking for something cool to do in the off months. The Patriots Point’s Flight Academy Summer Camp will help them hone their STEM and leadership skills while using cutting-edge and immersive flight simulators and control tower technology.
Patriots Point has devised an abbreviated version of our new Flight Academy. In the summer camp version of our immersion program, students will have the chance to learn the pertinent parts of an aircraft, aviation history, basics of flight, and radar familiarization. Through the use of our state of the art flight simulators and control tower, students get the opportunity to jump into the cockpit of an F-35B fighter jet and accomplish challenging missions through efficient communication and assistance from their peers. The relationships formed and tools used by the pilots and air traffic controllers put an emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and math as well as communication and team building skills. This is guaranteed to teach applicable lifelong skills, and be an experience that will never be forgotten.
How does it work?
Students participating in this camp will begin the flight academy with an engaging period of instruction outlining aviation history, basic aviation controls, simulator familiarization, and basic air traffic control skills. The students are then separated into squadrons to assume their roles as pilots and air traffic controllers. The pilots and controllers are then led to the simulation room to begin their highly involved and rigorous mission. Through teamwork and advanced interaction, the pilot and co-pilots will communicate with the air traffic controllers to successfully complete their mission.
Each member will get a chance to immerse in every role throughout the duration of the program. This emphasis on participation will give every student a chance to show their undefined potential and leadership capabilities through a rare fun-filled opportunity in our flight simulators.
It’s total adventure and excitement in the only Flight Academy experience in the region.
