Employees of the Month Named at Patriots PointHolly Jackson Aug 19, 2013
Congratulations to Justin Waldron, a new member of the Hull Maintenance department, for being named Employee of the Month for July at Patriots Point. Justin demonstrated creativity and cooperation that truly exemplifies the spirit of team work necessary in the operation of a first-class education program. He was given an educational tool, and asked to repair it. Instead, he designed and built, without being instructed, a tool that far exceeds the original tool’s capabilities and safety features. “The rocket launcher Justin built is an exceptional tool, that maximized the experience of our campers and scouts, while at the same time, added an element of safety that was missing in the tool’s use,” Keith Grybowski, Director of Education said. Thanks for your hard work, Justin!
Congratulations to Jonathan Larson and Marcy Wynn for each being named Employee of the Month for June at Patriots Point.
Jonathan Larson’s personal effort and leadership were instrumental in drafting and gaining approval for a Life Safety Plan for the flight deck festival onboard USS YORKTOWN on July 4th. This required several coordination meetings between different agencies, a great deal of Code research, and significant negotiation with regulatory agencies. Ultimately, due to his development of a comprehensive and complete plan, he was able to gain the concurrence of the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Town of Mount Pleasant Fire Marshal’s Office. Without the support of these agencies, the festival would not have been possible.
Marcy Wynn is the grant writer for Patriots Point and also serves as Executive Assistant to Executive Director Mac Burdette. Originally from Beaufort, SC, Wynn graduated from the University of South Carolina with a B.A. Sociology in 2008. She joined AmeriCorps and worked for East Cooper Habitat for Humanity before becoming a grant writer in February 2011. The museum was awarded three grants in the month of June to assist with marketing, exhibit upgrades and scholarships to the education program. That’s a 100% increase from last year. Way to go, Marcy!
