Former crew members, Patriots Point staff and the news media were on hand earlier this morning to watch the departure of USS Laffey to Detyen’s Shipyard. Exactly at 0715, Laffey began to ease out of her berth and was met by loud cheers and “Hurray!” from onlookers aboard Yorktown and smaller vessels lying off in Charleston Harbor.
