4th of July Blast at Patriots Point.

This year, two different Flight Deck ticket options are available.  For $100, visitors can purchase a VIP ticket.   This ticket will include complimentary drinks from a full service bar, a barbecue meal served by the museum’s official caterer TOP SHELF Catering, and access to a special area at the ship’s bow where chairs and tables will be provided.

The second ticket package is priced at $35.  It will include access to the Flight Deck starting at 6:00 p.m., where food and beverages will be available for purchase and two live bands will provide entertainment.  Guests are encouraged to bring folding chairs.

“Patriots Point is the place to be on the 4th of July,” said Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette.  “Our guests really enjoy the live music, amazing views of Charleston Harbor and the most powerful fireworks show in the Southeast.  It’s an experience that is unrivaled and one people don’t want to miss.”  Burdette also thanked this year’s sponsors Stevens Towing, the Town of Mount Pleasant, the City of Charleston, Parker Rigging, Salmons Dredging Corporation and the USS YORKTOWN Foundation for their support of the event.

In addition to the Flight Deck options, visitors will also have the option to enjoy the firework display landside.  Admission to this area is free; however parking for all guests regardless of ticket package will cost $10 per vehicle.  The festival landside will include live music with food and beverages available for purchase.   There will also be a jump castle and other activities for kids.

This year’s Patriots Point Fireworks Blast will be featured on the FOX News Channel.   Dana Perino, co-host of “The Five” and former White House Press Secretary will appear throughout the day alongside co-host of “FOX & Friends FIRST” Heather Childers.  The coverage will be part of FOX News Channel’s #ProudAmerican campaign.

On July 4th, the museum’s tour routes will close at 5:00 p.m.  The landside Fireworks Blast celebration will begin at 4:00 p.m.  The Flight Deck will open at 6:00 p.m.

Flight deck tickets are now SOLD OUT, but visitors are still allowed to watch the event landside and enjoy the celebration there!

Why do you not offer a military discount? July 4th is a definitive day to recognize the military and their families who have made sacrifices to serve our nation. It shows a great amount of disrespect to women and men of the armed forces to not offer a discounted ticket price, especially since the VIP ticket is so high. Yes, I read what the VIP ticket includes, and I am certain there will be hundred’s of the tickets purchased; even more reason to offer a military discount. Thank you for showing that dollars are more important than people.

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

Joseph, We completely understand your position. A great deal of thought goes into setting ticket prices for events and often involves consultation with veterans. We offer a military discount to our regular museum admission every day of the year we are open and we frequently offer events that offer free admission to military members and sometimes all of the public. Every day, our mission is to honor our veterans while educating all generations, and part of that is the upkeep and maintenance of the three 70-plus year old vessels in our fleet. This July 4th event allows us a way to help fund our mission while also putting on a great event for our community. It is not that money is more important than people, it’s that we want to be able to maintain this museum to continue to educate people about our nation’s great history for generations to come. We hope you can understand.

    2. Jim says:

I served in the military and I find it annoying that every one demands a discount. We already get enough preferential treatment.

  3. Gina says:

What does this barbecue food consist of that comes with the $100 purchase for the tickets? Is the open bar for well drinks or top shelf? What time does the event end?

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

      Good afternoon Gina,
The VIP menu has not been completely finalized, but as of now, it will include smoked chicken or barbeque pork, macaroni and cheese, and baked beans. The bar is house liquor, beer and wine. Beer selections will include: Bud Light, Miller Light, Yuengling and a craft beer TBD. The fireworks will begin once it is dark, which should be around 9-9:15 p.m. Fireworks should be completed by 9:30-9:45. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

  4. Genevieve says:

Do you have any vegetarian options available? Fruit, salads, fries, etc.? I’d love to buy VIP tickets for my family, but we do not eat meat or animal products…

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

Genevieve, The VIP menu has not been completely finalized (in particular, what, if any vegetarian options will be available), but there will be macaroni & cheese. The other menu items would not be vegetarian: bbq chicken and pork and baked beans. It is possible that other vegetarian options could be added to the menu. French fries and other items will be available for purchase on the flight deck. We will update the website with menu information as soon as it is made available, but VIP tickets will likely sell out very soon. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  5. Claire says:

VIP ticket holders are guaranteed with seating to see the fireworks or do they still have to bring a folding chair?

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

Good afternoon Claire. Flight Deck VIP ticket holders will be seated in a roped off area at the bow of the ship at tables with chairs provided. Only VIP guests will be allowed in this area. As a VIP ticket holder, you will not need to bring anything — food, drink, table and chair will all be provided. Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Do I need to purchase a ticket for my 15 month old son?

    1. Chris Hauff says:

      Hi Jane,

Any child that is still carried in his or her parents’ arms is free.

  7. Carol Hauschild says:

I have a disabled husband and he can’t walk at all. Is there a handicap restroom? Also how long do the fireworks last?

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

      Mrs. Hauschild,
Landside we have restrooms as part of our building and they are handicap accessible. On the flight deck there will be portable toilets that are specifically designed to allow handicapped access. The fireworks show usually lasts approximately 15-20 minutes.

  8. Erin Bagley says:

Are there near by waking distant hotels ?

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

Hi Erin. The closest hotels are the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina and the Cottages on Charleston Harbor, and just a little bit further down the road is the Quality Inn & Suites Patriots Point (196 Patriots Point Road). The following hotels are closer to a 1.5 mile walk away: Hampton Inn at 255 Sessions Way, Mt. Pleasant; Best Western Patriots Point at 259 McGrath Darby Blvd; and Days Inn Patriots Point at 261 Johnnie Dodds Blvd. All hotels are in Mount Pleasant, SC, 29464. Two more hotels are on the opposite side of Highway 17/Johnnie Dodds Blvd, but Patriots Point can be accessed without crossing that major thoroughfare by traveling down Harry Hallman Blvd and under the bridge to Patriots Point Road. These hotels are: the Holiday Inn at 250 Johnnie Dodds Blvd and the Holiday Inn Express at 350 Johnnie Dodds Blvd. Hope that helps.

  9. Jon C says:

Can you tell me if there will be gluten free food options available for purchase?

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

Hi Jon. There will definitely be gluten-free options. There will be peanuts, popcorn, hot dogs, hamburgers (both without buns, of course), chips and other options. Hope that helps. Let us know if you have any additional questions.

  11. Diane says:

Is the museum accessible for $35 ticket holders b/t 6-8pm? Is there additional cost for museum? Is the museum on landside or on ship? Thanks

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

There is no separate building for our museum. The museum is the ships and the numerous displays, exhibits, aircraft and other historical items set up throughout them. The USS Yorktown will be open and available for tours to flight deck ticket holders from 6-8 p.m. The USS Laffey, USS Clamagore and Vietnam Experience will be closed at this time. If you have a $35 ticket (flight deck), you will be welcome to tour the USS Yorktown from 6-8 p.m. Let us know if you have any additional questions.

  12. Jefferson says:

We were not able to get tickets for the ship viewing before they were sold out. We plan on doing the land-side viewing for the fireworks. I understand we are able to bring coolers and chairs. Are there public restrooms available on the 4th?

What time should we arrive if we want to part at Patriots Point?

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

Good morning! Sorry you missed the tickets on the flight deck, but we are sure you will have a great time landside as well. There will definitely be public restrooms available to you on Saturday and there will also be food vendors and entertainment. The landside events begin at 4 p.m. We recommend arriving as early as possible for parking, but there’s no way for us to know how quickly the closest lots will fill up. Thanks for making plans to join us. See you on the 4th!

  13. rick sebrell says:

what time would you recommend to arrive to ensure a parking place on the 4th?

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

Unfortunately I cannot give you a time that will guarantee parking, unless you were to come at 9 a.m. when our museum opens. The landside festival will begin at 4 p.m., but it’s most likely that the lots closest to our museum will be full at that time. We will be parking cars in lots along Patriots Point Road and in lots we control along that roadway. You are always welcome to come early in the day and purchase a ticket to the museum and enjoy touring while you wait for the festivities to begin. The museum will close at 5 p.m. so that we can clear the USS Yorktown prior to allowing event-ticketed guests on at 6 p.m. Hope that helps.

  14. Amanda S says:

I see that you can bring a cooler for drinks. I have a portable grill, am I able to being that out as well?

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

Due to fire codes and restrictions, no fire-producing devices are allowed on the grounds of Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum. This would include portable grills. Let us know if you have any additional questions!

  15. Becca says:

What hours will the Yorktown, Laffey, and Clamagore be open for touring on the 4th. How much are the adult tickets for tours if we are watching from landside? How long does it usually take to view all 3? Thanks!

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

Good afternoon Becca. The regular admission price of adult tickets is $20. There are discounts based on age or military service. For more information, check our website here: http://www.patriotspoint.org/plan_your_visit/. It can take at least half a day to adequately tour all three vessels and the Vietnam Experience. Some people spend longer. On July 4th, if you choose to purchase a ticket to visit the museum, it will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. (the ticket office will close at 4 p.m.). Parking on the 4th will be $10 all day. If you decide to stay and watch the fireworks from the land, there is no charge for that (you can also come watch the fireworks without touring the museum and paying for that ticket). Let us know if you have any other questions.

  16. Courtney says:

Landside is it reccomended to bring chairs or will there be too many people to sit down? Also, when you say coolers are allowed landside, is beer allowed in these coolers? Thanks!

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

Hi Courtney, Yes and Yes. As for the chairs, we absolutely recommend you bring chairs or blankets for comfortable seating.

  17. Tracy says:

I am new to the area. Do you have a map of parking areas for the event?

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

We do not have a map of the parking areas, but we have a large lot with overflow landside of the USS Yorktown. We also control various lots along Patriots Point Road (soccer and baseball fields) and we park cars in those and along the roadside as well.

  18. Kristy says:

Will we be able to bring in sparklers during the landside celebration to enjoy personally before the fireworks show?

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

Due to fire codes, no fire-producing devices, including sparklers, are allowed on the grounds of Patriots Point.

  19. Lee says:

I just want to make sure that I’m reading this correctly.
For only a parking fee of $10 I can bring my family, our lawn chairs and a picnic basket and enjoy the fireworks “landside” with no additional charges. Plus we get to enjoy the live music too?

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

Absolutely! Not a bad deal, right? Come early for best parking and to reserve yourself a great spot on the land along the Cooper River. We will have one band around 1:30 p.m. before Dana Perino (with Fox News) gives a speech and holds a book signing at 2 p.m. Then other landside bands will begin at 5 p.m. Children’s entertainment (including a jump castle) will begin at 4 p.m.

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

You can come as early as you like! Fox News program, “Fox & Friends First” will be broadcasting live beginning at 6 a.m. They will be giving away free BBQ and other items to promote their #ProudAmerican theme. Our museum opens at 9 a.m. and will close at 5 p.m. The landside celebration for the July 4th event will begin at 4 p.m. Flight deck ticket holders will be allowed to board the USS Yorktown at 6 p.m.

  21. Gail says:

My friend has just told me she has 2 VIP tickets and one of them is mine! I wanted to be able to bring my DSLR and a tripod to capture the fireworks. Will I be able to board the USS Yorktown with my camera and tripod? If not tripod, maybe a monopod?

Thanks. Am very excited to be part of this great event.

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

What a nice friend you have! You are welcome to bring the camera and tripod, but do remember, the lighter your load the better. You will have to walk the pier up to the Yorktown and then climb a series of stairs, or “ladders,” until you reach the flight deck. Bring only what you can comfortably carry, though at least as a VIP, you don’t need to bring seating!

        Thank you Molly!

  22. Hap Pritchard says:

Can I go early and set up tent and table for landside viewing?

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

You are welcome to come and set up your area early, but all tents must be taken down by 8 p.m. so as not to block fireworks viewing for any other spectators.

  23. Linda Grant says:

what is the dress code for the VIP dinner/event?

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

You are welcome to wear whatever you like, but casual and comfortable would be best. It is likely to be warm and you will have to climb a series of “ladders” (stairs) to get to the flight deck, so comfortable shoes and clothing are highly recommended. We hope you enjoy your evening!

  24. lori green says:

will you be allowed to leave the boat and return once onboard? are the tickets transferable?

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

Lori, The tickets are transferable before they are used — they can only be scanned once. Each ticket holder will be given a wristband that will allow for re-entry. Keep in mind though, flight deck ticket holders cannot enter the USS Yorktown until 6 p.m. Depending on where you park, it may be difficult to take your car out prior to the event end. Hope you enjoy the evening!

We purchased two flight deck tickets for my husband and I to attend tonight but we are currently sitting at Trident Hospital since 10pm last night with our 10 month old who is running a 106 temperature and we will not be able to attend the fireworks. Is there anything that a manager can do to help us obtain a full or even partial refund?

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

We are still having the fireworks as scheduled as of now. The fireworks will go off around 9:15-9:30 and last for approximately 20 minutes. As long as the lightning stays away, we will continue the event –even if there is some rain.

  27. Connie swisher says:

Do you only have this on the 4th or do you have entertainment on the weekends too?

    1. Molly Hamilton says:

Good morning Connie. Thanks for your interest in Patriots Point. Unless there is a special event on the calendar, we do not regularly offer entertainment here at the museum. Our July 4th event is our biggest of the year. Hope that helps!
