A Celebration of Yorktown's 65th Anniversary
May 02, 2008

The Fighting Lady has served in war, in peace and in the name of preserving history. On April 15, 2008 sixty five years worth of stories were revisited in USS Yorktown's hangar bay.
On April 15, 1943 the aircraft carrier Yorktown, CV-10, was commissioned at the Norfolk, Virginia Navy Yard. The great ship would earn eleven battle stars for her service in World War II as well as the Presidential Unit Citation. Yorktown would earn another four battle stars for service off Vietnam.
The keynote speaker for the anniversary celebration was the Rev. Harold Syfrett, a CV-10 veteran in WWII. Rev. Syfrett serves as Chaplain for the Yorktown Association. Additional speakers included Mount Pleasant, South Carolina Mayor Harry Hallman, Patriots Point Foundation Executive Director Judy Almand and Patriots Point Communications Director Jim McElroy.
