Lowcountry residents and visitors to Charleston are abuzz with excitement for the Fourth of July Blast at Patriots Point. With two weeks remaining until this annual celebration, Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette has announced that Flight Deck tickets are officially sold out.
Although tickets to the Flight Deck are sold out, there is still plenty of seating left landside and admission to this area is free, as it has always been. A $10 per vehicle parking fee will be assessed for all who wish to park at Patriots Point.
“Patriots Point has come to be recognized as the Lowcountry destination for the Fourth of July,” Burdette stated. “We are proud to welcome more than 25,000 people each year to celebrate Independence Day at Patriots Point; and this year, we’re excited to host 1,000 guests on our Flight Deck for the first time.”
In addition to an exciting new viewing platform – one of the nation’s most historic war ships – this year’s celebration will feature 8-inch firework shells shot from a barge in the Cooper River, making Patriots Point’s fireworks display the most spectacular in the State of South Carolina.
Guests on the Flight Deck will enjoy special access to the USS YORKTOWN starting at 5:30 p.m., with catered food and beverage available for purchase. The YORKTOWN will have entertainment for everyone – with live music from the East Coast Party Band and the up-and-coming group, The Explorers Club kicking-off at 6:00 p.m. and jump castles available for kids.
For those who wish to remain landside, fireworks will be visible from the grounds. Food and beverage from local vendors will be available for purchase and there will be lots of entertainment for the kids.

Hi, We will be vacationing down near Charleston the 4th of July week and were planning on watching the fireworks there as well. As I was researching I noticed you are offering seats on the deck of the USS Yorkstown for the display. We will have 6 adults and 9 kids from 3-13. Could you send me some more info on how th obtain tickets for this.
Thanks you,
Rich HEissler
Hello Mr. Heissler,
We’re so glad you’ll be able to join us! This year, we are offering seating on the flight deck for the first time. Seating is limited, so if you wish to join us aboard the USS Yorktown, we’d recommend purchasing your tickets early!
I have a 6 month old, and I noticed it says no outside food allowed am I allowed to bring bottled water for her formula bottles? I assume so, but I want to make sure!
Hi Katie,
That will be no problem. If anyone asks, please just tell them it is for the formula. We are glad you’ll be joining us for the Fourth of July celebration!
Was wondering how I go about purchasing tickets for the special seating as well?
Thank you,
Kelly Crawford
Ms. Crawford,
Tickets can be purchased through the Patriots Point website. For your convenience, I have attached the link here: https://secure4.gatewayticketing.com/PatriotsPoint/shop/ViewItems.aspx?CG=PPGA&C=PP4THFD
If there’s anything more we can do to help, please let us know! Thank you.
I am also interested in purchasing tickets for the july 4th fireworks. Can I call to purchase? I am having trouble getting through the website.
Hi April,
Unfortunately, we do not have the capability to take orders for the 4th of July by phone. Please find below a direct link to purchase tickets through our website – I hope it helps!
https://secure4.gatewayticketing.com/PatriotsPoint/shop/ViewItems.aspx?CG=PPGA&C=PP4THFD
What food will be available on the USS Yorktown?
Hi Gregg,
Thank you for your comment! We’ll be selling grilled shrimp, Charleston red rice, grilled sausage and peppers in buns and slaw. We’ll have hot dogs for the kids and an ice cream station for the young – and young at heart!
I wanted to get tickets to the fourth of July fireworks display for my wife and me if still available. How can I purchase 2 tickets? We also want to tour the carrier.
Mr. Growe,
Tickets are still available for purchase at the following link: https://secure4.gatewayticketing.com/PatriotsPoint/shop/ViewItems.aspx?CG=PPGA&C=PP4THFD
A $10 ticket will grant you access to tour the Yorktown after 5:30, before the fireworks begin later that evening. We’re looking forward to you joining us!
This sounds like a great event and I am looking forward to the fireworks display. I was just wondering if I will be able to purchase alcohol at this years event?
Thomas, thanks for your comment. Yes, alcohol will be available for purchase both on the flight deck of the Yorktown and landside.
My family would like to attend this event. Typically, children under 6 do not need a ticket, is this the case for the 4th of July event? I am trying to figure out how many tickets to purchase. Also, are there more events for children landslide or on deck? Which is more family friendly? Thank you!
Hi Carrie,
In order to keep an accurate count of the number of people on the flight deck (and to remain in compliance with fire code), only infants do not require a ticket. For all other children and adults, it is a $10 ticket. We will have jump castles and live music on the flight deck, and you will have the opportunity to tour the Yorktown after hours if you wish. On the landside, we will have a mobile game truck available for the kids at no charge, and there will be vendors and music from a radio station playing. We look forward to you joining us!
Does the $10 ticket get you a physical chair or does it give you a space to place your own chair that you bring on board? I am asking because I noticed the comment in the “IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND RESTRICTIONS” section indicated that “chairs are allowed”?
A second question is, is it reserved seating or first come first serve (general admission) for the purchased seats? We are purchasing 5 tickets and will want them to be together. Thank you.
Thank you for your note! The $10 will get you admission to the flight deck. There will be no seating available, so feel free to bring a chair(s). In addition, it will be open on the flight deck (similar to a picnic setting), so you’ll have no problem sitting with your family and friends.
Are strollers allowed for the flight deck celebration?
Hi Jennifer,
Yes, strollers are permitted on the flight deck. Thank you!
I noticed that there is a $10.00 fee to gain access to the deck for the fireworks. Is the general admission fee also required to see see the fireworks from the deck? for a total of $28.00 an adult. Or can you just purchase the firework deck access and not the ship tour access?
Mr. Davis,
The $10 fee will grant you access to the Yorktown (including the flight deck) after 5:30. If you would like to tour the Yorktown prior to that time, regular admission rates apply. Thank you.
How long do fireworks last.? How do we bring a lawn chair and tour the boat, too?
Mr. Olsen,
The fireworks are expected to last between 20 and 30 minutes. You are welcome to carry your lawn chair with you to tour the ship; however, we would recommend that you leave it on the flight deck with a member of your party.
How many tickets are being sold for the flight deck? How many remain at this time?
Looking forward to the event!
Less than 100 tickets are left. If you would like to join us, we strongly recommend purchasing your tickets as soon as possible!
Thanks. Can you tell me how many are sold in total? Just trying to find out how many people will be on the deck. Thank you!
1,000 tickets total will be sold for the flight deck.
GBower, as a matter of operational security, some info should not be displayed for public comsumption. K,thx.
Can you please tell me if you charge for a two year old with a stroller, and also, what if you are not able to print your tickets from home? is there another way to purchase these tickets in person?
Hi Cari,
If you view the fireworks from the landside area, there is no additional charge. We do not have a limit for the number of guests who can view the fireworks from the landside, but our flight deck tickets are limited to 1,000. (The flight deck tickets are $10/person) Unfortunately, we do not allow pets at our Fourth of July Celebration. Please thank you husband for his service as a member of the USAF (and your service as a family member who supports him)!
My husband and I will be in town for the 4 th of July and are interested in see the fireworks there. I see there is a $10.00 per car parking fee. Are there admission charges as well to see the fireworks? Also, we have a 7lb dog that will be with us and she will be in an enclosed dog stroller. I have not seen anything on your site about bringing pets, is this allowed? My husband is active duty Air Force and I see that we have to purchase any tickets applicable in person , is there a limit to how many people are admitted into the park grounds to watch?
Ms. Dunn,
In order to keep in compliance with fire codes, a ticket is required for all children older than infants. (The ticket pricing is the same across the board at $10/person.) If you are not able to print your tickets from home, you may purchase them at the ticket booth. Thank you!
Are pets allowed at Patriots Point?
Just came across the event, and unfortunately it’s sold out?!? Any chance there are two more seats? My girlfriend and I will be down to celebrate our anniversary, and I was hoping to surprise her during the fireworks.
Unfortunately, we’ve reached our limit for the flight deck! There’s still plenty of seating available on the landside of Patriots Point, and it will offer a great view of the fireworks. Thank you for your interest!
Sorry to hear you are sold out! Are there any good views of the fireworks from a rooftop restaurant that you could recommend? My husband and I are staying in the historic distict and was wondering where would be a good spot for the fireworks. Thanks!
Mrs. Stewart,
We’ll have plenty of room landside, if you’d still like to join us from that location. As far as a rooftop restaurant downtown, I’m afraid I’m not familiar with those that would offer a good view of the show. Your best bet would be to check with the hotel concierge when you arrive – I’m sure they will be able to provide you with a few options that will work well.
What time do the fireworks start?
The fireworks will begin once the sun sets. We anticipate this will be around 9 p.m. Thank you.
Hi. I just learned about your event as I just moved to the area. Unfortunately it appears I am too late to get tickets. Do you know if there is a waiting list I could put my name on if tickets do become available? Thanks!
Hi Tyler,
Thanks for your note. Unfortunately, we do not have a waiting list for flight deck tickets; but we do have plenty of room landside for you to watch the fireworks.
Hi we will be in charleston on vacation and are planning on coming to patriots point for the celebration of fireworks what is considered the landside areas for the viewing of the fireworks? thanks
Hi Robin,
The landside area includes the parking lot and surrounding grass areas at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum. (It does not include the pier, which provides access to the ships) Hope this helps!
Question about landside viewing – can we bring our own tent etc to set up and cookout? Thanks!
Hi Sam,
Tents are permitted landside, but they must be taken down by 8 pm. We do not allow any cooking landside, as it is a safety issue with so many small children around. We will have plenty of food available for purchse!
awesome thanks! Looking forward to it!
OK, what is the earliest we can get in to set up tents? Thanks again, we are really looking forward to it – had a blast last year!
Ok so just so I am clear, if I wanted to see the fireworks landside, the only fee required would be the $10 parking fee as well paying for my own food and drinks?
Yes, ma’am. That is correct.
we are staying at the hampton inn across from patriots point..is it ok to walk over….or do we have to drive.
Ms. Mcneill,
I checked google maps and found that it is approximately 1.1 miles from the Hampton Inn Mt. Pleasant to Patriots Point. It is a walkable distance, but I would caution that you must cross a Coleman Blvd. at a fairly busy intersection. (There is a crosswalk, but it is four lanes of traffic.) In addition, google advised that some areas of the route are missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths.
I have included directions from google below for your information:
1. Head northeast toward Sessions Way
2. Turn right onto Sessions Way
3. Turn right onto McGrath Darby Blvd
4. Continue onto Patriots Point Rd
5. Slight right to stay on Patriots Point Rd
6. Follow until you reach Patriots Point (will be on the right)

My husband and I attended this 4th of July event 5yrs ago and LOVED it! May I ask, once we get our seats in the grass, landside, can we purchase a ticket for the yorktown, how much is a ticket, we have a 3yr old as well?
Thanks, looking forward to it!!
Hi Kim,
We’re glad you’ll be joining us again! The Yorktown will be open to the public until 6:30 on July 4. (After that time, only those with Flight Deck tickets will be able to remain on the ship.) Adult tickets are $18 and children 6 and under are free!
What type of payment method is acceptable for the parking fee and food/drink vendors?
Hi LeeAnn,
Cash will be accepted as payment for parking and with the food/drink venders. There will be an ATM machine on the landside; but we recommend bringing cash with you to be on the safe side. Thank you!
Are coolers or individual water bottles allowed landside? I assume bringing a picnic dinner is not allowed. Is that correct?
Yes, coolers and waterbottles are permitted landside. You are more than welcome to bring a picnic dinner. (Cooking, however, is not permitted landside) Hope this helps!
Is there a specific address I can put into my gps for the event or would putting in patriots point be sufficient? Also I have heard of people saying they are going to the battery for the fireworks show. Is this the same thing?
Our address is 40 Patriots Point Road / Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. I am not 100% certain, but I believe that people on the battery watch the fireworks display that is hosted by Patriots Point.
Hi,
I go to Patriots Point every year for the firework display and will be going this year as well. I just got a puppy and do not want to leave her home alone, what is the pet policy for the event? She will have a leash on her at all times and is only 8 weeks old.
Hello Heather,
While we’re all pet lovers, they are, unfortunately, not allowed at our Fourth of July Blast. Thank you for your understanding.
If we are sitting landside are we allowed to bring food and drinks?
Yes, sir! Food and beverages are permitted landside.
Where are the activies going to be held before the fireworks start? Is it at the Mt. Pleasant waterfront park? I have never attended and I am wanting to take my 7 year old daughter. Thanks
Hi Paulette,
The activities will be available that afternoon, but we expect that most of the vendors will be set up between 4 and 5 p.m. Our celebration is taking place at the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum grounds, and there is a separate celebration hosted at Waterfront Park. Thank you!
In the past the band has played landside. It looks as though the ECPB will be on the ship thiis year, will there be a band landside? Also what is the earliest we can set up a tent?
Jeff,
We will not have live music landside this year, but we will have music playing from radio stations. You can arrive as early as you wish to set up a tent (we open at 9) but it must be taken down by 8 p.m. Thank you!
If we are just staying landside what time do you suggest we get there? We have 3 kids going with us that are young and just wanting to know what time everything landside starts. What all will be there for the kids landside. Also where all can we park if by the time we get there the parking lot is full?
Hello Monica,
We’d recommend getting there around 5-6 p.m. We’ll have several parking lots available, so as long as you arrive before the “big rush” (usually around 7), you should have no trouble finding a space. Thank you!
can you watch the fireworks from the walk way on the bridge
Jesse,
Your best bet would be to contact the Department of Transportation to verify their policy for the fourth. Thank you!
I have never been to Patriots point so im not sure where to go in order to see the fireworks. I understand the flight deck is sold out so if you are not sitting there where will you see the fireworks from? Is it just a fireworks display or will there be other things available for children? What time do the festivities begin? Thanks!
Marilyn,
Although our flight deck is sold out, there will be plenty of room on the landside of the museum and you’ll have no problem seeing the fireworks display. We will have a video game trailer for the kids to enjoy free of charge, and they have the opportunity to purchase a ticket to climb our climbing wall for $5. The festivities will begin around 5 p.m. that evening with the fireworks beginning once it is dark outside (around 9). Thank you!

I have purchased tickets for the flight deck. I know I can view the Yorktown at 5:30. My question is can I also view the Laffey at this time? Or is it an additional charge to view the Laffey? Thanks
Hi Becca,
The Laffey and Clamagore (submarine) will be open until 6:30 pm. You are more than welcome to tour the ships between 5:30 and 6:30 pm. Thank you
Can you tell me where the parking will be? We visited Ft. Sumpter today and noticed many places “roped off”. We have small children and were wondering how long of a walk it would be to the landslide viewing area and the parking. Thank you for your help.
Hi Tony,
We will have parking available in the Patriots Point lot, as well as adjacent property (including the soccer fields). We are recommending that our guests arrive early (ideally, no later than 6 pm), just to be on the safe side. That way, you will be able to ensure you have a parking space. Thank you!
What is the best time to arrive for the fire work landside so I am not stuck in traffic for hours to park . Thanks
Hi Natalia,
We’re recommending that guests arrive between 5 and 6 pm; but unfortunately, we can’t guarantee that there won’t be traffic at this time. Good luck!

Hello, I live in Wilmington,NC. I purchased 6 tickets for the flight deck. We now have a family emergency that will prevent us from attending the celebration. Is there anyway that you can donate these tickets to someone special that would enjoy this event? A needy family or child? I just want someone to enjoy them. Please email me with a reply.
Thanks
Hello Mrs. Hunt,
We are sorry to hear of the family emergency and will do our best to locate a family in need that might be able to enjoy the celebration on the flight deck. Thank you.
Thank you. That would be great. Let me know if you need my order number or any other information via email that I can send.
Have you already sold your flight deck tickets? I would like to purchase 4 if not…
Yes, we sold out two weeks ago; but still have plenty of room available to watch the fireworks from the landside. Thank you.

What time will the vendors be there? We are coming to tour the museum, and stay fro fireworks. We want to get good parking so we are coming early!!!
Hi Robin,
We believe the vendors will be arriving between 3 and 4 this afternoon. Thank you.
Are dogs allowed at the landside area tonight?
Hi Laura,
Unfortunately, no dogs are permitted at the celebration this evening – whether on the flight deck or landside. Thank you.
Can you bring a cooler for landside? Is alcohol allowed?
Yes, ma’am (on both accounts). Thank you.
Is there handicap parking? If not, about how far is the walk?
Hi Teresa,
Yes, there is plenty of handicap parking available. Thank you.
Hey guys,
What approximate time will the fireworks start?
The fireworks are expected to begin just after 9 pm. Thank you.
I really feel like I was taken advantage of. My family got here at 4:00 and we waited in the blazing sun. Finally the fireworks start. 3 miles away through a tree line. No one could believe it! The only people that got a good show were those on the flight deck.
What a huge disappointment.

My family will be vacationing in Charleston for July 4th of this yr. Will the flight deck be available for firework viewing this yr? When will tickets go on sale?
Hello Mr. Thompson,
We don’t have any dates planned to begin ticket sales, so please check back as we get a bit closer to the Fourth of July. We’ll publicize ticket sale information on our website and social media pages as soon as we have it. Thank you!
Hello, I would like to know if there will be a event for this year for 4th July, 2013. What are the hours and fee’s? I would appreciate it if you would let me know. Thank you.
Hi Elisabeth,
Thanks for your message. Yes, we will be hosting our “Fourth of July Blast” event once again this year. The festivities will kick off at about 5 p.m., and the fireworks begin at dark. We will offer viewing of the fireworks from the flight deck again this year, as well as from the landside of the museum. Landside viewing is free (with a parking fee per vehicle) and tickets will be on sale for our flight deck viewing in the weeks ahead. We do not have the prices available at this time; but we recommend visiting our website and faceboook pages to stay up-to-date on the latest news for this event.
Thank you!
