Patriot Day at Patriots Point, 11 September 2009

Waring Hills Sep 04, 2009

Do you remember where you were and what you were doing on the early morning of 11 September 2001? Everyone of age should never forget that day when our nation was attacked by a devilish and cowardly enemy.

What hither brought us! Hate, not love, nor hope of paradise in Hell, hope here to taste of pleasure, but all pleasure to destroy, save what is in destroying; other joy to me is lost.”  Spoken by Satan in Milton’s Paradise Lost, book IX

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum will honor Patriot Day beginning at 8:30 a.m. next Friday, September 11, 2009 aboard the USS Yorktown. This reverent event will serve as a memorial to the 2,998 who lost their lives on that day as well as the more than 6,291 injured. The ship will open at 8:15 AM and you should be onboard by 8:30 AM to see the ceremony.

At precisely 8:46 a.m., the exact moment the first tower of the World Trade Center was struck by a hijacked jetliner… members of the Mount Pleasant Fire Department’s Honor Guard will begin a procession down the pier to the USS Yorktown accompanied by a bagpiper from the Charleston Police Department Bagpipe Band and escorted by students from Moultrie Middle School. The procession will end in Hangar Bay III aboard the USS Yorktown where local dignitaries and guests will participate in remembering that horrible day.

Parking and attendance is FREE for the public (until 9 AM). Any member of a South Carolina Fire Department, Law Enforcement Department or Emergency Services Staff will receive free admission all day. We hope you will join us for this moving and memorable program.
