5th Grade Literacy and Distance Learning
Patriots Point’s Literacy and Distance Learning Program supports the education of South Carolina 5th grade students by emphasizing learning in content areas, supporting struggling students and improving teacher quality. Participation in the program, by request, is FREE to all South Carolina public school 5th grade students. In alignment with the Profile of the SC Graduate, the Literacy and Distance Learning provides physical books, digital resources, hybrid programming and teacher professional development components. Participating in the program starts with requesting to receive the books for your students.
Books and Kits
Literacy and Distance Learning Program is funded by the Education Improvement Acts. The books are aligned to SC College- and Career-Ready Standards in social studies, science, and math. Upon program registration, the books are shipped FREE to the classroom. They are to be provided to your students to enhance their home libraries or to reinforce 5th grade content in the classroom. The deadline for program registration is December 1st, 2021. Email [email protected] with questions, book options, and to register.

Virtual Programs
Virtual programs are FREE to those 5th grade classes that participate in the EIA Literacy and Distance Program by requesting books. Programs are approximately 30 minutes long. Register by email [email protected] or by submitting a request for a program.

Patriots Point has resumed it multi station in-person History, Science and Math structured program on board the USS Yorktown. In its 16th year of operation, the program is FREE to all South Carolina public school 5th grade students participating in the Literacy and Distance Learning Program by receiving Patriots Point books. Each station and activity are aligned to the 5th grade social studies, science, and math standards. All programs start at 10am and last 2 hours. Registration for in-person programming this Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 is open. Register by email [email protected] or by submitting a request for a program.
