4th of July at Patriots Point: What To Know 2021

Chris Hauff Jun 18, 2021

The 4th of July Fireworks Blast will be an onshore party in 2021. There will not be access to the USS Yorktown Flight Deck.

The 4th of July Fireworks Blast is back this year!  The night sky above the USS Yorktown will be full of red, white and blue fireworks to celebrate American independence.

While we are proud to announce the return of our biggest event, it will look a little different than the past.  The most significant change – our celebration will be limited to the shore.  There will not be a ticketed USS Yorktown Flight Deck option.

Here’s what you need to know:

Our museum will open for regular tours at 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 4.  There will be a $20 parking fee charged all day.  The parking spots in our lots will all be offered first-come, first-served basis.  The last admission ticket for the museum will be sold at 3:30 p.m., our ships will close at 5. The 4th of July party kicks off at 6 and will not cost you anything to attend, other than the parking fee.

The 4th of July Fireworks Blast celebration will run from 6-10 p.m.  Local music venue Awendaw Green will bring local musicians to the stage to play live music. More than ten Lowcountry food trucks will sell delicious dishes for you to enjoy.  Beer, wine and other beverages will be available for purchase.

After several hours of live music and fun, fireworks will take to the sky from a barge in Charleston Harbor around 9:15 (we wait until the sunlight is completely gone).

After the fireworks show, Mount Pleasant Police will help traffic flow out of Patriots Point as efficiently as possible.

How much is Parking?

Parking is $20/vehicle for everyone, is first-come, first-serve and the ticket is good all day.

Are strollers allowed?

Yes, strollers are welcome.

Are pets allowed?

No pets, except for service animals, are permitted at Patriots Point for the Fourth of July Blast.

What time will the fireworks start?

The sun is expected to set around 8:30 p.m.  The fireworks will begin once it is dark, which is normally by 9 – 9:15 p.m.

Are guests allowed to ride bicycles into Patriots Point?

Yes, biking is one way to reach the celebration.  There is some bike parking available.

If I purchase a museum ticket during the day, what time will I have to leave?

The ticket window will be open for regular touring tickets beginning at 9 a.m. The last ticket to the museum will be sold at 3:30 p.m.  The museum will close at 5 p.m. Everyone will be required to leave the ships and Vietnam Experience at that time, even if you plan to attend the landside Fireworks Blast celebration.

Are guests allowed to take the Charleston Water Taxi to Patriots Point on July 4th?

Check with the Charleston Water Taxi for their exact schedule on that day, but that is definitely an option to arrive at Patriots Point on July 4th.  However, you will still need to purchase a general museum ticket if coming through the gate there to enter the museum during business hours.  Alternately, you can take the pier around to the main entrance.

Can I go early and set up tent and table for landside viewing?

You are welcome to come and set up your area early, but all tents must be taken down by 8 p.m. so as not to block fireworks viewing for any other spectators.

I have a portable grill, am I able to bring that out as well?

Due to fire codes, no fire-producing devices, including grills of any type, are allowed on the grounds of Patriots Point.

Are coolers for food or drink allowed at the landside celebration?

Yes, coolers are welcome if you plan to stay landside.  They will not be allowed on the pier or flight deck.

What type of food and beverages will be available for sale?

At least 10 Lowcountry food trucks will sell delicious food.  Beer, wine and other beverages will also be available to purchase.

What time will the music begin?

For the landside celebration, live music will kick off at 6 p.m.

Will we be able to bring in sparklers during the landside celebration to enjoy personally before the fireworks show?

Due to fire codes, no fire-producing devices, including sparklers, are allowed on the grounds of Patriots Point.
