“Honoring Our History” Tour To Visit Patriots Point

patriotspoint Mar 06, 2012

On Thursday, March 8, Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum will welcome the “Honoring Our History” tour for a special one-day visit. This World War I traveling exhibit is free to the public and is hosted in partnership with the National World War I Museum based out of Kansas City, Waddell & Reed and Ivy Funds.
The traveling gallery features a variety of artifacts and multimedia displays.  In addition to viewing the relatively primitive tools, weapons, equipment and uniforms of the war, visitors are able to walk through an authentic trench that simulates the World War I environment.
“We are excited to host this interactive display at Patriots Point and hope the public will join us on Thursday to learn more about the rich history of World War I,” said Executive Director Mac Burdette.   “World War I is becoming a lost war.  This conflict marked the real beginning of the United States becoming a global power.  The War launched the military careers of Patton, MacArthur, Eisenhower, and Truman, Marshall all of whom would be essential to the leadership required to win WWII and to hold back the spread of communism in Europe and Asia.  Patriots Point will continue to be a leader in the education of our children as to why we fought.”

“This is such a simple, yet dramatic, way to share our World War I collection with the rest of the country, and is especially important as the centennial of World War I approaches in 2014,” said Brian Alexander, president and CEO of the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial shared in a news release. “Support is vital to sustaining our museum in the manner that its history deserves. We’re pleased to partner with Waddell & Reed in this endeavor, and look forward to sharing our artifacts and stories with audiences around the nation.”
