The Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is currently searching for nurses who served overseas or aboard hospital ships during times of war, and are willing to participate in an upcoming free symposium scheduled for March 31.  Nurses who are interested in sharing their stories are asked to contact the Patriots Point Education Department at 843.971.5046 or by emailing [email protected].

The Women’s History Month: Nurses in War symposium will delve into the crucial and invaluable role of nurses who provided care to injured troops during World War II, the Korean and Vietnam wars, the Gulf War and our most recent conflicts including the War in Afghanistan and Iraq.   In addition to the participation of veteran nurses, the museum is also looking for photos and video that can be used to set up a special panel discussion, and items that can be loaned for use in a temporary exhibit aboard the USS YORKTOWN.

The Medical University of South Carolina, American Red Cross, Ralph Johnson VA Medical Center, and the Navy Nurse Corps Association are all assisting Patriots Point in research for the symposium.   The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. on March 31.  Admission and parking will be free.  Additional information will be released as the event approaches.
