Chris Hauff May 21, 2021

On Friday, May 21, the Patriots Point Development Authority Board (PPDA) unanimously selected Rorie Cartier, Ph.D., to serve as the state agency’s executive director.  His start date is July 1.

Dr. Cartier currently serves as Museum Director for the National Museum of The Pacific War (NMPW) in Fredericksburg, Texas.  While leading NMPW, he worked closely with staff and the community to obtain accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums, attained an affiliation with the Smithsonian, and worked to expand educational and public outreach.

Dr. Cartier, a native of New Orleans, La, currently serves as the Museum Director for the National Museum of the Pacific War, the only institution in the U.S dedicated exclusively to telling the story of the Pacific and Asiatic theaters in World War II

Before joining NMPW, Dr. Cartier served as Assistant Director of Development for the Admiral Nimitz Foundation and held several leadership positions with the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, L.A.

“After a thorough nationwide search, we’re excited that Rorie will be joining us,” said Vice Chairman of the PPDA Board Wayne Adams. “His combination of energy and experience as an educator, fundraiser, and service at two of the most respected military museums in America provides an enviable skill set to lead Patriots Point into the future.”

Dr. Cartier was selected from a pool of more than 90 applicants from across the country.  He earned his Ph.D. in history from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, and an M.A. in European Studies from the Universiteit van Amsterdam.  Cartier also holds B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

In addition to leading the National Museum of The Pacific War, Dr. Cartier also serves on the Board of Directors for the local Convention and Visitors Bureau, the SPCA, the Texas Association of Museums, and the American Alliance of Museums Visiting Committee for Accreditation.
