Scrappy’s Return

There’s a familiar face appearing around town again. Scrappy, the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum mascot, is attending Cool Ray’s 30th birthday bash at Mascot Mania on January 22! It’s a one-of-a-kind home game featuring mascots from around the Lowcountry gathering to celebrate Cool Ray’s big day. For tickets, click here.

Scrappy has been on some top-secret missions since 2020 but now he’s back and ready to play. Keep an eye out for him onboard the USS Yorktown’s main deck in the coming weeks!

Curious about the origins of our mascot? Learn more about the real Scrappy below!

Scrappy’s Origins

Scrappy was a small dog that sailors snuck aboard the Yorktown at Pearl Harbor in 1943. The secret came out when Scrappy, dressed in a life jacket barking on the flight deck, was spotted by Captain Jocko Clark (Yorktown’s commanding officer).

Jocko’s salty response was, “There is a __ __ dog barking on the deck! What in the __ is going on here?”

“Captain,” came the quick reply, “we call him Jock.”

“Well, that’s all right. He can stay.”

Check out the video below for past AND present Scrappy footage!
