Terrific Turnout for the Great Race stopover at Patriots Point

Chris Hauff Jun 30, 2014

On Friday, June 27th thousands lined up on both sides of the “old road” at Patriots Point to welcome the 2014 Hemmings Motor News Great Race to Mount Pleasant.  The drivers competing in the race took off Friday morning from Wilmington, North Carolina; they stopped in Myrtle Beach for lunch.   The South Carolina leg of the race was one of nine different stages starting in Maine on June 21,  and ending in The Villages, Florida on Monday, June 29.

Before the cars crossed the check point into Patriots Point, Mt. Pleasant Mayor Linda Page was named an honorary Great Race driver by event officials.   After the ceremony was over, the mayor and Patriots Point’s mascot, Scrappy, waved a checkered flag for the first few drivers as they cruised in.

In addition to the Great Race cars, more than a dozen local clubs also had vehicles on display.  Thank you to everyone who made the stopover so terrific.   Please enjoy the photo gallery below.
