Veterans Day Weekend At Patriots Point
Waring Hills Nov 02, 2011Veterans Day Weekend events begin Friday, 11 November, with a patriotic concert by the
Charleston Community Band in Hangar Bay III onboard the famous USS
Yorktown (CV-10).

Saturday morning will see lots of action as the first annual Run for the Yorktown
5K race begins at 8 AM. http://www.runfortheyorktown.com/ The race will be
held as a charity benefit to provide scholarships for youth to attend Patriots
Point’s history and science education programs.
Living history exhibits from World War II through Vietnam War will be on
museum grounds featuring re-enactors with displays of uniforms and hardware
from 9:30 am until 4:30 pm on Saturday.
Sunday ends Veterans Day Weekend with the first annual Homegrown Music
Festival, from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm. The festival encourages the growth of
the art of independent performing singer-songwriters. The genres include
Acoustic, Americana, Bluegrass, Blues, Celtic, Country and Folk. Using one
stage, groups of three musicians will man the stage for an hour, taking turns
playing their original music. Tickets will cost $5 per person for the music festival.
Admission to the museum will be FREE for all Veterans from November 11-13.
Parking fees and Music Festival tickets are not included in veteran admissions,
and normal ticket prices apply to non-veterans.
