Veterans of the Fighting Lady video!

Waring Hills Oct 20, 2010

Imaging Arts Gallery will exhibit a series of portraits by local portrait photographers, displaying veterans who have served or serve today on the USS Yorktown (CV-10). These veterans are from the World War II through the Vietnam War eras and several different branches of service. The portraits were taken in many different spots on location aboard the Fighting Lady (Yorktown’s WWII nickname). The portraits will be on display and for sale. Funds raised will go toward a temporary exhibit space to expand educational opportunities and what the museum can showcase.

Private Event with auction of portraits will be held Thursday, November 4th, 5-8 pm, suggested donation $50.

Opens to the public, November 5th, 5 – 8 p. m.

Imaging Arts Gallery is located in downtown Charleston, SC, at 175 King Street. These portraits were taken onboard the USS Yorktown in conjunction with the Witness to War program (http://www.witness-to-war.org/). Photographers include: Brownie Harris, Squire Fox, Jack Alterman, Diana Deaver, Hunter McRae, Tommy Ford, Stacy Pearsall and Andy Dunaway. Producer is Shell B Royster.

Some of the veterans and portrait photographers will be on hand to greet and meet with guests to discuss their work and life stories. Donate online at: https://www.crowdrise.com/photoproject/fundraiser/yorktownphotoproject

My uncle, Tewy McPherson was a sailor on the USS Yorktown during WW2. He used to tell us stories about his time on that ship. I was wondering if there are any more living veterans who served with my uncle on the original USS Yorktown?
