AMS 100 Cork and Christening Ribbons
Description
Faded, formerly red, white, and blue christening ribbons sewn and wrapped around a champagne bottle cork. The ribbons and cork are mounted on a light brown, wooden plaque that names the sponsor of the ship (Catherine McDonough), the date of the launch (March 12, 1953), and the name of the ship (A.M.S. 100) in painted yellow lettering. The back of the plaque has a brass mounting bracket at the top and a twisted piece of metal affixing the ribbons and cork to the plaque.

Context
AMS 100 was sponsored and launched by Catherine C. McDonough (Clarey), daughter of Lt. Commander McDonough, previously of the Charleston Navy Yard's Production Division. This mounted cork and ribbons were donated as a part of a larger collection centered around Lt. Commander McDonough's service with the Charleston and Tampa Navy Yards.
The Motor Minesweeper AMS 100 was transferred to the Netherlands in February of 1954 and christened the Breukelen (M-852). It was later returned to the United States and redesignated as Coastal Minesweeper MSC-100.
