9/11 Remembrance

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks by honoring the 2,977 people who lost their lives that day. Throughout the morning, the museum will sound the horn of the historic USS Yorktown at six significant moments, serving as a solemn tribute and moment of remembrance.

The USS Yorktown's horn will sound at 8:46 a.m., 9:03 a.m., 9:37 a.m., 9:59 a.m., 10:03 a.m., and 10:28 a.m. Each horn blast corresponds to a pivotal moment from September 11, 2001, including the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the crash of United Airlines Flight 93, and the collapse of the Twin Towers.

Visitors are also invited to reflect on the extraordinary sacrifice of the members of the New York City Fire Department who gave their lives in the line of duty that day. Photographs honoring these fallen firefighters will be displayed in the USS Yorktown's escalator stairwell throughout the commemorative observance.
