9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
This year is the 20th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. For the eighth year, first responders from Lowcountry agencies and beyond will participate in a silent walk across the Ravenel Bridge. The walk serves as a time to remember the lives lost on this tragic day and honor the heroism of the firefighters and police officers who responded to the scene. The 9/11 Silent Walk begins on the Charleston peninsula and ends at Patriots Point.
A remembrance ceremony will take place on the flight deck of the USS Yorktown at 11:30 AM. This event is open to the public and included in the price of admission.
Patriots Point will also offer a program for children from 9 AM- 1 PM. Hands-on children’s activities will focus on exploring positive character traits exemplified by first responders on September 11th, 2001, remembering the fallen through a visual art exhibit they will help build and crafts they can take home. Children will have the opportunity to reflect on what patriotism means to them, create a wreath of remembrance and get a glimpse of museum artifacts involved in emergency response onboard.
