Retiring of the US flag over the Charleston Harbor
On Saturday, June 14, 2025, the Knights of Columbus will hold their annual Flag Day ceremony aboard the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will include the formal retirement of the U.S. flag to ensure our nation’s symbol is not displayed in a state of wear or damage. The Knights of Columbus honor guard will proceed in formation to respectfully lower and fold the flag, while the meaning of each of the 13 folds is read aloud. The retired flag will then be presented to an honoree who has shown steadfast respect and appreciation for our nation’s colors.
