Our April volunteer profile features our only aeronautical engineer, George Lodge, who worked for the Glenn L. Martin aircraft company from 1939 to 1947. He grew up in Camden, New Jersey and attended John Hopkins University and the University of Maryland.Β  George worked on the Martin 167/187/B-26 Marauder, PBM Mariner patrol bomber, JRM-Mars, and the XB48 among others. After leaving Martin, he helped in the development of the Redstone rocket, which launched America’s first satellite and astronaut (Alan Shepard) into space. (SEE IMAGES BELOW)

George also served as an auxiliary policeman for Baltimore County, Maryland for 31 years.

A volunteer at Patriots Point since 1997, today George celebrates his 94th birthday, still serving his country as one of Yorktown’s dedicated volunteers.
