The Grumman F-6F Hellcat was the United States Navy’s primary fighter aircraft from mid 1943 till the end of the war.  It achieved a combat kill ratio of 19-1. The first landing on the USS Yorktown was made by a Hellcat flown by CAG-5 (Commander Air Group Five) LCDR James H. Flatley, Jr., on 06 May 1943 and it would also debut in combat flying off Yorktown again led by its air group commander.
