Patriots Point to Host 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit

Chris Hauff May 16, 2016

An 1,100 square foot, mobile exhibit that honors the more than 3,000 victims killed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks will be on display at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum May 21 and 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The free exhibit will arrive at the museum accompanied by a procession of Lowcountry first responders on Friday, May 20.

The 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit will be on display May 21 and 22 at Patriots Point.

Once opened, New York City firefighters will offer guided tours of the 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit.  Through the presentation of artifacts including steel beams recovered after the collapse of the World Trade Center, documentary video, and recordings of first-responder radio transmissions, visitors will learn intimate details about the attacks and the ultimate sacrifice made by so many on that tragic day nearly 15 years ago.

“This is a great opportunity for folks unable to travel to New York to honor those who lost their lives in the infamous terrorist attacks,” said Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette.  “This exhibit serves as a poignant reminder of that day.”  The free exhibit will take the place of the museum’s annual Memorial Day ceremony, which will return in 2017.  “The 9/11 mobile exhibit is a very unique opportunity that many here in the Lowcountry will want to experience,” said Burdette.

Sequence of events

A procession of first-responder vehicles will escort the 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit from North Charleston’s City Hall to Patriots Point at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 20.  The exhibit is expected to travel over a fireboat fountain display while crossing the Ravenel Bridge at approximately 10:45 a.m.  Following the completion of set up, a public ceremony will begin at 3:30 p.m. in front of the exhibit at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum. Afterward, the exhibit will open on the first day to first responders only.  It will open to the general public Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Admission is free.  Parking will cost $5.
The 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit is presented by Hudson Nissan, Charleston Nissan and Nissan.   “We’re delighted and honored to sponsor such a terrific cause and be able to bring this wonderful memorial to the Charleston community,” said Hudson Automotive Group President David Hudson.
