Whale arrives at Patriots Point

Waring Hills Jul 08, 2010

Skywarrior onboard USS Yorktown, 08 August 2010.

Our A-3D Skywarrior arrived on high tide this afternoon. Originally designed by Douglas Aircraft Corporation to be a twin engined nuclear bomber for the Navy, the “Whale” served most of its career as an ECM platform and tanker aircraft. It was to be the heaviest Naval aircraft flying from carrier flight decks at the weight of 84,000 lbs.

Head on look at the Whale with the new Cooper River bridge in the background.
